"One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” - the astronaut Neil Armstrong made history with this radio message on 21 July 1969. He became the first person to set foot on the Moon. Around 600 million people around the world watched the scenes in fuzzy, almost ghostly black-and-white TV images. The "Eagle” lunar module had landed on the Moon on 20 July. Around six hours later, at 3.56 a.m. CET, Neil Armstrong emerged and set foot on the surface of the Moon. He was quickly followed by his colleague Buzz Aldrin, while the third astronaut, Michael Collins, circled the Moon in the mother ship. The "50 years manned Moon landing” motif, designed by René Sager and Jwan Reber, shows an image of an astronaut walking on the Moon as it looked on TV screens at the time of broadcast.
