From 18 July to 11 August 2019, Vevey will play host to "Fête des Vignerons 2019”. With roots dating back to the 17th century, this huge event has one of the most unusual cycles a festival could ever have - it is held once a generation. The unique festival is organized by the Confrérie des Vignerons and is held in Vevey. This tranquil little town is transformed into a vibrant mecca for wine lovers from Switzerland and other nearby countries. UNESCO has included the Winegrowers Festival in its List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The event was most recently held in 1977 and 1999. Now it’s time for the next generation to take their turn. The three special stamps worth CHF 1 were produced as a se-tenant. They are based on the official poster of the "Fête des Vignerons 2019”, which was created by the same designers. The three motifs depict the life cycle of the vine. Framed by a vine tendril, the Sun - which ripens the grapes - appears in the center. It may come as a surprise that the stamps feature a bird (a starling) - especially one that is not particularly popular among winegrowers due to its habit of stealing grapes. The starling nevertheless has a very special significance for "Fête des Vignerons 2019”, playing a key role in the festival’s concept.
