The Swiss Florists’ Association, which was renamed florist.ch on 1 January 2020, is celebrating its centenary this year. A special stamp fittingly depicting this splendid craft is being issued to mark the anniversary. Since 1920, the Swiss Florists’ Association, a not-for-profit organization, has ensured that the Swiss flower industry flourishes (an apt word to use). Originally purely an employer organization, it has since developed into an industry association: employed florists are now also eligible to join as professional members. The bouquet of flowers depicted on the special stamp alludes stylistically to the still-life genre of painting. The bouquet’s composition was produced in conjunction with experts and aims to reflect the art of flower arranging, which has a rich tradition. Hydrangea, gloriosa, montbretia, dahlia, roses and burnets can also be clearly recognized in the stamp format. “Through the stark contrast between the flamboyant colourfulness of the bouquet and the background and the graphically reduced and hand-crafted style, the composition deliberately departs from traditional naturalism and emphasizes a contemporary approach. The fresh splendour becomes a vibrant explosion of colour on the stamp.” This is the design concept produced by Anita Dettwiler and Dani Pelagatti.
