Compulsory education has been enshrined in the Federal Constitution for 150 years. Despite initial resistance from agriculture and industry, which didn’t want to lose their workforce, school is now part of everyday life for all children and young people. In addition to the usual subjects, schools also teach children how to live together in society and help promote integration.
